Two-point Correlation Statistics in the Atmospheric Surface Layer
نویسنده
چکیده
A collaborative experimental effort in the western Utah salt flats [7] has enabled us to map coherence in turbulent boundary layers at very high Reynolds numbers [Reτ ≈ O(106)]. It is found that the large-scale coherence recently noted in the logarithmic region of laboratory-scale boundary layers [4] is also present in the very high Reynolds number atmospheric surface layer [5]. Two-point correlation for the streamwise fluctuation is compared for the stable, neutral and unstable surface layers in a plane parallel to the surface. The observed differences in the spatial features of the correlation maps can be characterized by the stability parameter z/ζ. Further, the integral length scales obtained from the correlation show orderly behavior with varying stability.

In issues related to air pollution, the thickness of the boundary layer is known as the depth of the mixed layer because the pollution on the ground surface is mixed in this entire layer through turbulence processes. In most cases, the boundary of the area is clearly visible on big industrial cities. The depth of the mixed layer has an important effect in the concentration of air pollution whic...

Turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubic obstacles has been numerically investigated using large-eddy simulation. The simulations have been performed using high-performance computations with local cluster systems. The array of cubes are fully submerged in a simulated deep rough-wall atmospheric boundary-layer with high turbulence intensity characteristics of environmental turbulent fl...

Introduction Atmospheric boundary layer (ABL), is the lowest part of the atmosphere. Its behavior is directly influenced by its contact with earth surface. On earth it usually responds to changes in surface radiative forcing in an hour or less. In this layer physical quantities such as flow velocity, temperature, moisture, etc., display rapid fluctuations (turbulence) and vertical mixing is st...

Extended abstract 1- INTRODUCTION In the arid and semi-arid areas of Asia, dust storms occur frequently. Much progress has been made in the monitoring modeling and prediction of Asian dust storms. Dust emission is caused by wind erosion in the sensitive areas. Wind erosion is described as the transportation of soil particles by means of the wind. Soil Surface moisture is one of the most i...
